We've compiled a top 10 of camp sites around the country, catering for a range of tastes and locations. This is not in any particular order (even though we've numbered them!) and we'll update/change it as it takes our fancy. See what you think……

1.    Dunstan Hill, Northumberland

A secluded site, ideal for exploring Northumberland coastline and within easy access of the A1. The site is located on the rugged east coast in the shadow of DunstanburghCastle. The the lovely beaches of the North Northumberland Heritage Coast are a few minutes' walk away - Embleton Bay has a wide, golden, sandy beach with views to Dunstanburgh Castle.

2.    Turner Hall Farm, Cumbria

This small, basic site lies in the DuddonValley, the most beautiful part of one of the Lake District's least developed areas. Great for walkers - if you set off in any direction and it won't be long before you find a hill to climb. From the highest ground in England, to the loveliest river stroll by the Duddon, this is one of the greatest places on the planet to take your boots.

3.    Brighouse Bay, Dumfries and Galloway

This is a great site for a family vacation - Situated on the Solway Firthand surrounded by 1,200 acres of great walking country, BrighouseBayis set in a quiet, secluded peninsula, with magnificent views over the Irish Sea. The award-winning holiday park offers a swimming pool with toddlers' pool, playground, ten-pin bowling, games room, bar & bistro and a family room.


4.    Beacon Cottage Farm, St Agnes, Cornwall

Situated in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and HeritageCoastand the South West Coastal footpath passes the site giving access to some of the finest cliff and coastal scenery in Cornwall. The park is part of a traditional working family farm set in beautiful countryside, a few hundred yards from the sea.

5.    Three CliffsBay, Gower

This small family park has won numerous awards, such as being voted the "number one view from a campsite in the world" by The Independent, 2006. The major attraction of this site is its spectacular position, which offers panoramic views of the Gower coastline and it is a short walk to the beautiful ThreeCliffsBay.

6.    Hole Station, Devon

For those not wanting to suffer other people's children, Hole Station is an adults only, peaceful, tents only campsite set in 23 acres of native deciduous woodland, situated in very rural West Devon- midway between Dartmoorand the beaches of North Cornwalland North Devon. Every pitch has its own fire pit, and fire-starting kits are available.

7.    Hooks House Farm, North Yorkshire

A small, friendly, family run campsite, situated on a working farm half a mile from Robin Hood's Bay. The pitches here offer a superb vantage point from which to survey the colourful patchwork of fields rolling down towards the dramatic coastline. There are moorland walks nearby and rock pooling, crabbing and fossil hunting on the beach and the site is within walking distance of the local pubs and shops. It is approximately 5 miles from Whitbyand 20 miles from Scarborough.

8.    Caolasnacon, Argyll

It's hard to imagine a more serene camping scene than this site, nestled in an idyllic setting just outside Kinlochleven on the south shoreof Loch Levenin the beautiful Scottish Highlands.  Glencoe is nearby, as is the West HighlandWay, and there is excellent canoeing and mountain biking in the area.

9.    Deer's Glade Caravan and Camping Park, Norfolk

This five-star award winning park is a quiet, rural, family-run site set in a beautiful woodland clearing in north Norfolk. The site has a natural play area for children, a fishing lake, dog walks, and you can enjoy cycling around quiet country lanes, trying to spot the local wild deer. It is located within easy reach of the north Norfolk coast and beaches, the Norfolk Broads, Norwich, and nearby are Weavers Way for walking and Marriots Way for cycling.

10.   Vale of PickeringCaravanPark, North Yorkshire

This is one of the very best Family Caravan parks in the country. The 15 acre site is surrounded by beautiful countryside.The spacious park has panoramic views, & is generously planted with trees, shrubs, flowerbeds & hanging baskets.  There is a good-size playing field for football and other games, and a superb children's play area.
