Canyoning Experience Day

Canyoning, much like Coasteering, is a mix of climbing, swimming and cliff jumping your way along, through and over obstacles you face in the canyon. This exciting and challenging activity involves sliding and scrambling your way along the canyon tackling waterfalls, white water, and plunge pools and anything else in your way. Check out the canyoning experience days at Action & Adventure.

What is Canyoning?

Canyoning might be the best outdoor adventure activity you will ever do!

One way of describing a canyoning experience day is white water rafting but without the raft. You’ll descend a steep sided gorge by various ways and means. This can involve sliding down rapids, swimming, scrambling over rocks, maybe walking behind waterfalls and jumping into the river.

With fantastic pool jumps, natural water flumes, abseils through waterfalls and stunning scenery this is fast becoming a “must do” outdoor activity. It is ideal for Stag and Hen activity weekends or as an adventure to add to your holiday.  All you will need to bring is a pair of trainers that you don’t mind getting wet and a towel. The organisers will provide you with wet suit,  splash suits and all safety equipment.

As you can imagine, canyoning does require a degree of physical fitness. It can be demanding as it involves climbing/scrambling, swimming and walking. However, even if you can’t swim you can still join in as we provide buoyancy aids for everyone and it is not uncommon to have non-swimmers amongst the group. Canyoning experience days usually recommend that participants should be over a specified age limit to attempt the full canyoning gorge, usually between 12 and 16, so check the details of each provider. For younger or less physically able customers there are alternative combined rock and water activities such as gorge walking or ghyll scrambling.

Where can I do Canyoning?

Because of the nature of the activity, canyoning requires mountain gorges and plenty of water (think waterfalls!) so most canyoning experience days are either Canyoning Scotland or Canyoning Wales. This has the advantage that you will be undertaking your activity among stunning scenery with many opportunities for further fantastic activities and experiences in the area.

Canyoning is a must try adrenaline sport, with big jumps in to natural rock pools, swimming under waterfalls and cascading down slides formed in bedrock. Canyoning is a fantastic, extreme adventure so check and compare these offers and you should find just the right canyoning experience day for you.
