Rucksacks & Backpacks

Whether you're off backpacking around the world or just need a bag to carry your picnic, you should find just the backpack/rucksack you need at Action & Adventure.
Choosing a backpack/rucksack should not be a fashion choice. Don’t pay too much attention to the colour or general coolness of the backpacks you are choosing from. See how 'cool' your fancy dayglo backpack is once you’ve been carrying it for a week with a half your worldly possessions in it!

When selecting a backpack/rucksack you need to consider how big your pack needs to be and what you intend to use it for. Of course, you’ll want your pack to be lightweight and versatile and most of the packs here are great value for money and  perfectly suited for the entry level walker. Made from durable polyester fabrics and packed full of useful features. Look for features such as adjustable waist belt and chest strap, map pocket additional pockets for flexibility and maybe a rain cover.

Decide if you need your backpack/rucksack to accommodate a hydration system or if you are just going to use bottles or other containers. Keep in mind that drinking tubes and bladders can freeze up in cold conditions and need regular cleaning.
It is best to prepare for the worst possible weather conditions if you’re planning more than a short stroll on a fine day so you may need a waterproof backpack. Look for a backpack that comes with a splash cover or that has a separate fitting splash cover.

Day Packs

Equally at home on a bike touring the sites or walking through the countryside. Choose from our selection of comfortable packs with sections for sandwiches, camera water, a jacket, phone and guidebook. You'll also find features such as space for a hydration system, raincover and air systems to keep your back cool and dry.

Backpacks

Selecting a backpack/rucksack is a more specialised affair for which you need to consider the capacity of the bag and your size. It's tempting to take half your wardrobe when you go away on a long trip, but you'd be surprised at how little you actually need. If you're having trouble cutting back it's a good idea to lay out what you think you need on a bed or on the floor - and halve it.

Medium backpacks range from around 30L-45L and If you need a large rucksack aim for a capacity of around 50L or up to as much 70-80L.

The other point to consider is how tall you are, most packs are adjustable in various ways but some bags have longer backs for the taller among you. A backpack fits you correctly if the weight of the bag rests onto your hips.
